PETERSBURG, FL, July 30, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — Nearly three years after surviving a catastrophic dog attack that left her fighting for her life, Florida author, speaker, and Restore180 Foundation founder Chelsea Elizabeth is returning to HCA Florida Blake Hospital for another stage of reconstructive surgery.
But this is not a story about another surgery.
It is a story about what happens after survival—and the recovery almost no one sees.
In August 2023, Chelsea arrived at HCA Florida Blake Hospital as a trauma alert after sustaining life-threatening injuries, including a complete open degloving injury to her scalp and face, along with extensive injuries throughout her body. The emergency saved her life. What followed was not a single operation or a brief recovery, but three years of reconstructive surgery, rehabilitation, and rebuilding.
For Chelsea, HCA Florida Blake Hospital became far more than the place where her life was saved.
It became one of the few places where she never had to explain what happened.
Over three years, physicians, nurses, surgical teams, therapists, and staff came to know not only her medical history but also her life. They celebrated career milestones, talked about children and grandchildren, shared stories about pets, vacations, school, and family. What began as trauma care became relationships built over years of recovery.
“When I walk through those doors, I see familiar faces,” Chelsea says. “They’ve read my medical file, but more importantly, they took the time to know me.”
Outside the hospital, the experience is very different.
People often see someone who appears healthy. They tell her how amazing she looks, how grateful she must be, and how fortunate she is to have survived.
What they do not see is someone who continues preparing for another surgery, another recovery, and another chapter of rebuilding. They do not see the grief of losing an ordinary life, the emotional weight of reconstructing identity, or the loneliness that can follow once the hospital stay ends and everyone else assumes recovery is complete.
“The attack nearly took my life,” Chelsea says. “Recovery asked me to figure out who I was going to be if I lived.”
“As the years passed, I found myself asking a question I never expected: What has been harder—the attack itself, or learning how to live after surviving it? That question changed how I understood recovery.”
Chelsea’s story extends beyond the operating room. She is completing The Life Rewritten Trilogy, documenting the realities of long-term trauma recovery, and expanding the mission of Restore180 Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people rebuild after life-changing events.
