New Store Began Construction in March
CARLSBAD, NM, April 21, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) is proud to welcome its first Discount Tire store. The new retailer broke ground on construction March 30th with a ceremony to kick the project off in one of the fastest growing areas of New Mexico.
Discussions with Discount Tire began in late 2024, with CDOD and City leadership working together to introduce the opportunity and align on market conditions, site selection, and infrastructure. The company selected its site later that year and finalized the purchase in December 2025. The new store will be located at 4015 National Parks Highway.
“We’re excited to welcome Discount Tire to Carlsbad,” said Carlsbad Mayor Rick Lopez. “This project has been in the works for several years, and it’s great to see it moving forward. Discount Tire will be a solid, community-friendly addition and another sign of the steady growth we’re seeing in Carlsbad.”
With Discount Tire choosing a location on National Parks Highway, it bolsters this area of Carlsbad that has recently seen Wing Stop, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, Dominos Pizza, and McDonald’s open stores. The south side of the market continues to show growth potential with opportunities for retail and restaurants. Available locations and new housing developments make this area appealing to site selectors.
“We’re excited to grow with Carlsbad and open another Discount Tire store in New Mexico,” said Anthony Eichenlaub, Discount Tire’s regional vice president. “The team is eager to help serve the community and provide drivers with an inviting, easy, and safe experience they can count on.”
Carlsbad currently sees daytime population numbers ranging from 88,000 to 92,000 per day. Areas of the market have traffic counts over 50,000 per day, and on an annual basis, Carlsbad, home of the world-famous Carlsbad Caverns, sees an average of over 500,000 visitors. With such an influx of people either visiting or moving to the community, demand for more commercial options remains at an all-time high.
“This project is one of several currently underway that the CDOD is a part of all across Carlsbad,” said CDOD Board President Susan Crockett. “Adding more options to the commercial side of development gives our community more choices, which is always a good thing.”
The Carlsbad Department of Development (CDOD) is the economic development agency for the City of Carlsbad and Eddy County, New Mexico. We assist businesses considering the area for expansion and new investment, as well as providing retention and expansion assistance to existing industry.
